Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809. He was inaugurated into his presidency in 1861 and remained in office until he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865. In September of 1862 Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which would free slaves in the rebelling states as of January 1st, 1863. Lincoln led the US in the Civil War and preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the national government, and modernized the economy.
