Jefferson Davis
Jefferson Finis Davis was the president of the Confederate states during the Civil War. Davis personally took charge of the war plans for the Confederacy but couldn't devise a plan that was better than the Union's. He fought in the Mexican-American War as a colonel of a volunteer regiment and graduated from the Military Academy at West Point. In 1865, Davis was captured and accused of treason but was released after 2 years when he was not tried. In 1881, he encouraged southerners to be loyal to the Union.
