Minie Ball
The minie ball was a bullet used in rifles that was smaller than the diameter of the barrel of the gun so it didn't have to be forced into the barrel and allowed easier loading. The new minie balls also could be fired accurately. Upon impact the bullet lose its shape which inflicted great injuries such as splintering of bone, lacerations and destruction of internal organs, which posed a challenge for even the most experienced of surgeons.
